The Top 5 Bart & Lisa Simpson Moments
In terms of attitude and personality, Bart and Lisa Simpson couldn’t be anymore different. Lisa is the more conservative, intelligent and thought-provoking child, whilst Bart chooses to live life a little more on the wild side. In saying that, the two share a bond unlike any others on the show. With a younger sister myself, their relationship was very relatable growing up, since although they may fight and squabble on a regular basis, at the end of the day they will always be there for one another. Here are my Top 5 Bart & Lisa moments:
5. Lisa Buys Back Bart’s Soul – Bart Sells His Soul
A great scene of pure despair and anguish as Bart pleads to the almighty for his soul back. Enter Lisa, as she reveals that she bought his soul back from the Comic Book Store (sounds ridiculous I know), helping Bart regain what was left of his sanity and mental well-being. I always saw this as Lisa returning the favour to Bart after he avoided the temptation of The Ultimate Pog, and opted to buy the ‘Sax On The Beach’ record for her instead. A moment that also could have very easily made this list.
4. Happy Birthday Lisa – Stark Raving Dad
Who doesn’t love the ‘Happy Birthday Lisa’ song? Hear it once and you’ll be singing it for hours. However the thought behind this catchy tune is what makes it so great. After being letdown once again on her birthday by Bart, Lisa is overheard saying that she is virtually disowning him as a brother. It’s obvious that Bart loves his sister, it’s just time he started to show it. So with the help of Michael Jackson, a rubbish bin bongo and his lucky red hat, Bart gives Lisa the best birthday gift ever. Emotions ensue and grown men cry everywhere.
3. Bart Takes The Blame For Lisa – Separate Vocations
This would have to be one of Bart’s most admiral acts. Throwing himself on the sword to prevent Lisa from getting punished for stealing the Teacher’s Edition books, if that’s not an indication of sibling love then I don’t know what is. More importantly, by doing so he gave up his first (and maybe only) real opportunity to succeed in school. The closing shot of Lisa playing saxophone outside the window as Bart is in detention is also a very nice touch.
2. Lisa Says “Bart” – Lisa’s First Word
This is the scene where the bond between Lisa and Bart is born. His reaction of pure excitement as Lisa says her first word “Bart”, will always bring a smile to my face. Top it off with their embrace after Lisa refuses to call Homer “Daddy”, and you’ve got yourself a beautiful moment.
1. End Of The Hockey Game – Lisa On Ice
I’m not going to lie, I’ve been known to tear up during this flashback sequence. How can you not? If you’re a guy with a younger sister, this scene punches you right in the feels. We’ve all been known to find our siblings annoying at times, but as Lisa and Bart teach us here, you’ll always have a bond unlike any other. Marge and Homer’s reactions to their children’s new-found respect for one another is absolutely hilarious, but it doesn’t take away from the raw emotion from this scene. One of my favourite Simpsons moments of all time period. Kudos to the music during this scene as well, absolute perfection.
