Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz return in new Simpsons short

It’s been more than 25 years since Phil Hartman’s iconic characters Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz last appeared on The Simpsons, whose voices were retired after the legendary actor’s untimely passing in 1998.

As a result, the characters never received the send-off they truly deserved. In fact, they never even appeared in the same scene together…until now.

Courtesy of a brand new fan-made Simpsons short from super fans Andrew Kepple and Jayden Libran, fans finally have the opportunity to see the two characters interact.

Titled ‘Troyal Of The Century: Troy McClure vs The Springfield Aquarium”, the 7-minute film sees McClure on trial for indecent exposure at the Springfield Aquarium, represented by none other than Lionel Hutz.

Filled with countless cameos and easter eggs that true Simpsons fans will absolute adore, ‘Troyal Of The Century’ took 18 months to put together, with Kepple completing the animation and Libran voicing every character.

Libran told Dando on the latest Four Finger Discount podcast, “We don't own the characters by any means, but I think the fans have some level of entitlement to seeing how the characters play out in their minds, some imagination towards that. Since we never really got to see how their lives played out, we never really got to see Lionel Hutz win a big case or Troy get a career resurgence. I thought it'd just be nice to see the characters one more time in their fullest.”

Hopefully if this short proves to be a success with fans, Libran and Kepple can collaborate on more Simpsons projects in the future.
